At Rushton’s, we’re proud to work with suppliers who share our values of quality, sustainability, and authenticity. One of the partnerships we’re most excited about is with Honest Toil — a small, collaborative project based just south of Kyparissia in Messinia, Peloponnese, Greece.

A Family-Led, Community-Driven Project
Honest Toil isn’t a faceless operation or a big corporate brand. It’s mainly three people — Tom, Juli and Louis — supported by friends, family, and neighbours during the annual harvest. Alongside their own groves, they also work with other local small-scale growers, ensuring that the traditional Messinian harvest is supported, protected, and celebrated.
This collaborative approach means that the olive oil you receive isn’t just about the fruit of one farm, it’s a reflection of a whole community working together, rooted in respect for the land and its people.
What Makes Honest Toil Olive Oil So Special?
The oil itself speaks volumes.
- Fresh from the latest harvest: This batch comes from November/December 2024.
- Cold-pressed straight after picking: locking in purity and flavour.
- Completely unblended and unfiltered: an honest expression of the land and harvest.
- Incredible flavour: expect a punch of fresh cut grass, with a vibrant, peppery finish.
- Exceptional quality: low acidity (0.2–0.3%) and high in polyphenols (550mg/kg), making it not only delicious but packed with natural antioxidants.
Quite simply, it’s about as good — and as direct — as it gets.

Sustainability at the Core
What we love most about Honest Toil is that their ethos goes far beyond flavour. Their sustainability practices touch every part of the process:
- Zero waste: leftover olive pulp is composted or repurposed.
- Thoughtful packaging: glass bottles, cans and biodegradable packaging materials are standard.
- Local collaboration: supporting small growers helps preserve traditional harvesting methods, biodiversity, and rural livelihoods.
- Minimal transport impact: they avoid unnecessary processing and distribution layers, ensuring the oil moves from grove to kitchen as directly as possible.
In their words, it’s about making sure the oil is produced and distributed in the most direct, sustainable way possible, something that aligns perfectly with Rushton’s commitment to working with growers who genuinely care about their craft and the planet.
Why It Matters for Chefs
For London’s chefs, Honest Toil offers more than just an ingredient. It’s a chance to bring a story of provenance, sustainability and craftsmanship into your kitchen. The oil doesn’t just finish a dish, it connects your menu to the groves of Messinia and the people who care for them.
At a time when diners are more conscious than ever about where their food comes from, Honest Toil represents exactly the kind of integrity and transparency that chefs can be proud to showcase.
A True Partnership
At Rushton’s, our mission is to connect London’s kitchens with exceptional, sustainably produced ingredients. Working with Honest Toil is a perfect example of how we do this, by seeking out suppliers whose values align with ours and whose products elevate the very best menus in the city.
So the next time you drizzle Honest Toil over a salad, pair it with fresh bread, or use it to finish a dish, know that you’re tasting something authentic, sustainable, and honest.
